Quality and Authenticity
What is a Giclée?
Gicl
é
e (pronounced "zhee-clay") reproductions were originally developed
in 1989 as a digital method of
fine art printing. The word Giclée is French for "to spray on"
or "to spray ink". The images are digitally
stored in a computer and finally sent directly to a high
resolution, inkjet printer.
This technology provides incredible detail and brilliant
color. The resolution is actually higher than
traditional lithography which results in crisp contrast with rich,
intense color.
Unlike lithographs and serigraphs, Giclée printing has
undergone extensive, third-party fade-testing.
While the predicted display life depends on many variables, under
typical home or office lighting, and
depending on the papers used, DHFA giclees are estimated to last up
to 90+ years without noticable fade.
We recommend, however, that customers treat their Giclée
prints the same as they would any original
piece of art. You should never expose any type of artwork to
prolonged sunlight or other harsh
conditions. Unless otherwise noted, DHFA produces all artwork via
Giclee' technique.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE
READ.
Due to different monitor calibrations, I do not guarantee that the
colors will be an exact match with those
you will view within this site, because, in most cases, the actual
printed piece will appear more saturated and
vivid. I adjust and control
all colors and density to meet my high standards before I sign and
number any print.
What other proceedures and types of media are used for DHFA
reproductions?
Currently, all output of DHFA fine art is via the Giclée
technique on Fine Art Rag and Canvas. Though
small quantity limited editions of select imagery from within the
DHFA Collection will be availble soon for
the serious collector. These small limited-editions
will consist of hand-printed B&W fiber based prints
and/or Custom Color C-prints for a more "traditional" approach to
collecting my fine art.
What quantities are the DHFA Limited Edition Series?
Is there a Certificate of Authenticity?
All Doug Heslep Fine Art images purchased are Limited Editions
and will be limited to a series of
50, 100, 150, or 250. Each image will have a corresponding
quantity noted within the details
section of that paritcular image found in the Gallery. All
Limited Edition print will be signed and
numbered and will come with a DHFA Certificate of
Authenticity.
Some images may be available on
more than one media type, Fine Art Rag (a subtly textured
watercolor paper with brilliant color
display) and/or Canvas (higher contrast with vibrant color
display). Canvas prints come with a
bonus "continuous image" 2 inch border for optional "gallery style"
canvas frame stretching.
This is a budget minded approach to exhibiting your fine art
Canvas.
The archival digital process utilizing Epson Ultrachrome pigment
inks is of museum quality.

Viewer's Questions and Comments
Why do the women in your nudes seem to glow?
I have been asked by many people this question, so as I mentioned
on my Gallery intro page,
I utilize digital technology and embrace it tightly. Each and
every one of my nude form images
have been given hours/days of enhancement as I "blend" the entire
skin area with a cloning
technique special to my own taste and quality demands. It is a
tedious task, but it allows me
to retain the detail and identity of each individual while creating
a softening "glow" overall...
taking away visual imperfections found within us all...
applauding the beauty both
inside and out of each and every woman I capture thru my
lens.
A perpetual applaud of woman.
